Abstracts |
The influence of 14 arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) isolates (Scutellospora heterogama, S. gregaria, S. pellucida, Acaulospora spinosa, A. morrowiae UFLA and CMM, A. scrobiculata, Gigaspora gigantea, G. margarita, G. albida, Glomus clarum CMM and UFLA, Glomus etunicatum, Paraglomus occultum) on brachiaria grass (Brachiaria decumbens) [Urochloa decumbens] growth and extraction of Zn, Cd, Cu and Pb from a contaminated soil was evaluated in a greenhouse experiment. Mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal U. decumbens plants were grown in pots with 0.92 kg of soil containing Zn, Cu, Cd, and Pb (3.30, 60.0, 29.0 and 73.0 mg/kg, respectively). AMF increased the dry matter yield by 84%. Plant heavy metal concentrations were high and were inversely related to dry matter yield. The isolates did not affect Pb but reduced shoot Zn, Cd and Cu concentrations by 20, 28 and 6.1%, respectively. Mycorrhiza affected Cu accumulation in roots. AMF isolates enhanced the total amount of soil-extracted metals by 845, 142, 68 and 51% for Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd, respectively. Only A. spinosa, A. morrowiae UFLA and G. gigantea enhanced the simultaneous soil extraction of all 4 metals. AMF increase the capacity of U. decumbens to extract the contaminant heavy metals from soil, with differentiated effects among the species.. |
