Abstracts |
In vitro experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the extracts of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM)-colonized roots of Trigonella foenum-graecum, Ricinus communis, Solanum melongena and M. alba var. sujanpuri on the rhizogenesis of M. alba var. sujanpuri under NaCl stress. The AM fungi (Glomus mosseae, Glomus microcarpum, Glomus macrocarpum, Glomus fasciculatum, Gigaspora margarita and Gigaspora heterogama) were multiplied on the 4 host plants separately, and the mycorrhizal root extracts were prepared by homogenizing well-colonized mycorrhizal roots. The extracts were added to Murashige and Skoog's (MS) media containing 0.1 to 0.4% (w/v) NaCl. The in vitro-grown shoot cultures of M. alba were transferred to the MS media containing the AM root extracts for rhizogenesis. Comparisons were made between indole butyric acid (IBA; 1.0 mg litre-1) and AM root extracts. The AM root extracts of M. alba were on a par with IBA and superior to the other extracts in promoting rhizogenesis, root growth and proliferation in the presence or absence of NaCl. |
