Abstracts |
A field experiment was conducted during the winter season of 2001-02 and 2002-03 to study the effect of phosphorus levels and biofertilizers on yield attributes, yield, P-uptake and economics of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiosi & Paol.). The treatments consisted of phosphorus levels (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg P2O5/ha) and biofertilizer application (no inoculation, phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB)), vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae (YAM) and YAM+PSB. Yield attributes like effective tillers, grains/ear, test weight and grain and straw yields were significantly improved by the application of 50 kg P2o5/ha. Similarly, all these characters significantly increased owing to inoculation with biofertilizers over no inoculation. Application of 50 kg P2O5/ha registered 31% increase in P-uptake over control whereas VAM+PSB inoculation recorded 7.64% more uptake as compared to no inoculation. Optimum dose of P was 48.52 kg P/ha for wheat. Highest benefit:cost ratio was observed by 50 kg P2O5/ha (2.17 and 2.24) and VAM+PSB (2.15 and 2.24), respectively. |
