An investigation was carried out to study the effect of bio-fertilizers on homestead fruit production of papaya cv. Ranchi in the village of Sibpur, district Nadia of West Bengal during three years. Experimental findings revealed that different treatments of bio-fertilizers significantly increased the physico-chemical qualities of fruits and also growth characters of plant. Among different treatments under study, Azotobacter+Azospirillium+VAM+2 kg FYM showed maximum plant height (173.75 cm), plant girth (37.44 cm) and number of fruits per plant (19.72 nos) followed by Azotobacter+VAM+2 kg FYM while control recorded minimum growth characters. This treatment also recorded maximum fruit weight, bio-chemical constituents were also influenced by the applications of bio-fertilizer. Maximum total soluble solids (6.20 degrees Brix), total sugar (5.18%) and carotene (2320 micro g/100 g pulp) content were recorded from Azotobacter+Azospirillum+VAM+2 kg FYM with minimum acidity. This treatment also recorded maximum microbial (bacteria) population. Finally, it is concluded that bio-fertilizers namely Azotobacter+Azospirillium+VAM+2 kg FYM can be applied for homestead fruit production of papaya which are safe and residue free. |
