Abstracts |
Glomus brohultii forms ellipsoid to sub-globose or irregular or globose, yellow-brown to brown spores, 95 - 130 x 70 - 105 mum in diam., with a smooth, 3.5 - 16 mum thick laminated wall. The wall consists of two layers being the outer thin, < 1 mum, and the inner laminated. The outer layer is seldom seen. The hyphal connection is often recurved, has frequently a bulbous or bi-furcate shape, or is straight. The pore of the hyphal connection is often closed by a septum. The shape of the hyphal connection differentiates this species from other Glomerales species. Spores of Glomus brohultii are described from specimens found in Cuba, Costa Rica as well as in the Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Zaire). The new species was named in honour of the founding president of the International Foundation of Science, Sven Brohult
