Field experiment was conducted in sugarcane plant crops during 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 at Regional Agricultural Research station, Anakapalle to study the effect of different times of application of mycorrhizae along with different levels of phosphorus on yield and quality of sugarcane. The treatment 75% recommended dose of phosphorus 100 kg P2O5 ha-1+mycorrhizae @ 12.5 kg ha-1 applied at the time of planting recorded the highest per cent germination, maximum shoot population, cane yield and sugar yield while minimum cane and sugar yields were observed in 50% recommended dose of phosphorus+100% recommended dose of nitrogen and potassium (112 kg N, 120 kg K2O ha-1) without any application of mycorrhizae. Maximum juice sucrose was recorded with the treatment which received 100% RDF+mycorrhizae @ 12.5 kg ha-1 and maximum commercial cane sugar was observed in the treatment with 50% recommended dose of phosphorus+mycorrhizae @ 12.5 kg ha-1 applied at the time of planting and per cent purity was recorded in 75% recommended dose of phosphorus + mycorrhizae % 12.5 kg ha-1 applied at the time of planting. The higher uptake of nutrients was also maximum with the application of 75% recommended dose of phosphorus+mycorrhizae @ 12.5 kg ha-1 applied at the time of planting. Post harvest soil analysis indicated that the higher contents of nitrogen and phosphorus were observed with 75% recommended dose of phosphorus+recommended dose of nitrogen and potassium in addition to mycorrhizae @ 12.5 kg ha-1 while more potassium content was recorded with 50% recommended dose of phosphorus+100% recommended dose of nitrogen and potassium in addition to mycorrhizae @ 12.5 kg ha-1. |
