A study of the ectomycorrhizal fungal richness in Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) plantations and nurseries in Patagonia (Argentina) was conducted. Eight plantations and five nurseries were sampled for hypogeous and epigeous fungi from 1998 through 2002. Amphinema byssoides, Hymenogaster subalpinus, Hysterangium coriaceum, Radiigera taylorii, Suillus lakei and Tomentella atramentaria were found exclusively in plantations. Laccaria tortilis, Tuber borchii and Tuber calfornicum were found exclusively in nurseries and Endogone lactiflua, Hebeloma hiemale, Hebeloma mesophaeum, Inocybe kauffmanii, Rhizopogon villosulus and Thelephora terrestris were found in both nurseries and plantations. Overall, fifteen introduced mycorrhizal species were found. Rhizopogon villosulus and Suillus lakei are the best potential candidates for use in mycorrhizal fungi inoculation programs for Douglas fir. |
