This study highlights the importance of mycorrhizae in the improvement of tolerance of date palm to a water deficit and to attacks by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis. After 8 months of mycorrhizal inoculation, the mycorrhizal fungi used were infectious and slightly affected by the drying out of the soil. Whatever the water regime imposed to the soil, the effect of inoculation by the consortium Aoufous (Glomus sp. (15 spores·(g of soil)−1), Sclerocystis sp. (9 spores·(g of soil)−1) and Acaulospora sp. (1 spore·(g of soil)−1)) and the Glomus monosporus and Glomus clarum has proved positive on the biomass production and the accumulation of mineral elements in the aerial parts of date palm despite the attacks by F. oxysporum. The improvement of water parameters of mycorrhized plants attacked or not by F. oxysporum is remarkable under the limiting conditions in water. The indigenous fungal isolates of Aoufous have been shown to be as effective as the selected Glomus. Glomus deserticola has proved ineffective in the improvement of the growth of date palm and the plants inoculated with it were more affected by the F. oxysporum attack and by the drying out of the soil. The mortality rate among the palm trees infected by F. oxysporum were lower among mycorrhizal plants than among the non-mycorrhizal plants. |
